Research in immunology and infectious diseases has been a long-lasting focus at FAU as illustrated by the continuous funding of research consortia by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) since 1990. The Interdisciplinary Center for Clinical Research (IZKF) of the Medical Faculty of FAU provides intramural funds for individual and collaborative research projects.
FAU I-MED currently consists of six thematic units and various research consortia:
- Basic immunological research
- Infectious disease immunology, including vaccination
- Tumor immunology
- Immunology of autoimmune diseases, autoinflammatory diseases and other chronic inflammatory diseases in all organ systems
- Immunological methods and other techniques and procedures relevant to the analysis of immunological processes
- Studies and clinical trials on immunotherapy
