Immunology in Undergraduate Programs

FAU I-MED pursues the goal to provide and improve teaching in immunology and infectious disease in all medical and life science undergraduate programs at FAU, including human medicine, molecular medicine, dentistry, biology (B.Sc.), integrated immunology (M.Sc.), cell and molecular biology (M.Sc.), integrated life sciences (B.Sc., M.Sc.), life science engineering (B.Sc., M.Sc.), midwifery science (B.Sc.) and pharmacy studies.

Immunology in Doctoral Programs

FAU I-MED also aims to train doctoral candidates (PhD and MD candidates) in immunology and infectious diseases. A number of DFG-funded research training groups help to educate the next generation of scientists:

  • Research Training Group RTG 2504 “Novel antiviral approaches: from small molecules to immune intervention”
  • Research Training Group RTG 2599 “Fine-Tuners of the Adaptive Immune Response”
  • Research Training Group RTG 2740 “ImmunoMicroTope”
  • Integrated Research Training Group (IRTG) of the Collaborative Research Center 1181 “Checkpoints for Resolution of Inflammation”
  • Integrated Research Training Group (IRTG) of the Collaborative Research Center Transregio 221 “Modulation of graft-versus-host and graft-versus-leukemia immune responses after allogeneic stem cell transplantation”
  • Integrated Research Training Group (IRTG) of the Collaborative Research Center Transregio 241 “Immune-Epithelial Communication in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases”
  • Integrated Research Training Group (IRTG) of the Collaborative Research Center Transregio 305  “Striking a moving target: From mechanisms of metastatic organ colonisation to novel systemic therapies”

In addition, the Medical Faculty of FAU offers the PhD programme Advanced ImmunoMedicine”, which is particularly meant for licensed physicians, who want to obtain an additional qualification in immunological research.

Immunology in Clinician Scientist Programs

FAU I-MED has the vision to strengthen the connection between basic, translational and clinical immunological research with the help of (third-party-funded) clinician scientist programs by e.g. the
